GABR 2011=Successe

It was a great but very busy weekend!!! The Great American Bike Race was held on Saturday April 9th at Century High School in Bismarck North Dakota. Before the graet day I had a little bit of a scare, after we went to set up on friday my eye swelled shut and I could not open it for the rest of the night. At nine O'clock on Friday night my mom finally took me to the walk-in clinic to see if it was infected, but the Dr couldn't find anything, He told me to keep an eye-patch on it to sheild it from the light. Needles to say I had to wear an eye-patch to the race.

This is the day I look forward to every year, not only because it is a fun and it brings the whole family together but because it helps families with kids with Cerebral Palsy raise money for kids to have the things that insureance does not pay for, that kids need or want but couldn't have otherwise. I my self have benefited from these funds but I have never wanted to do it for my self, I do it for my friends and they do ut for their friends and so on. The quote that the race is known for is...DO IT FOR THE KIDS!!! This is the quote I live by because I know how important it is to beable to be as independent as possible which may not be possable without GABR. THANK YOU!!

Here are just some pictures from the big day.

The Great American Bike Race (GABR)

The Great American Bike Race or GABR is just around the corner!!! I'm freaking out a little bit because a certain someone who shell remain nameless has not put my bike on the trainer downstairs and the race is about eight days away.

Thousands of people come out for this great cause.

Many of my friends already know what GABR is and have helped us out a great deal but for those of you who have never heard of this great cause I will explain.  GABR is a stationary bike Race that raises money for individual with Cerebral Palsy and other related disabilities.  Living with a disability can be very difficult; there are many things that we may need that insurance wont pay for; such as therapies and equipment like wheelchairs and ankle braces. They also help pay for to Drs. Appointments and other thing that can make kids more independent and their lives more enjoyable.

Never Letting a Disability Define Who You Are

My name is Jacey Enget I’m 20 years old and was born with Spastic Cerebral Palsy.  You might think that having Cerebral Palsy and being in a wheelchair cause me to think that I can’t do things that an able bodied person can do.  I am here to tell you that that is not the case; I have been by many that I probably do more than most people.  When I was growing up my parents taught me to never let my disability stop me, let me tell you I have tae advice in stride.
Believe me when I say that with every disability comes a few hurdles to jump over but that is one thing that after twenty almost twenty-one years you just learn to deal with.  I am a down hill skier, a water skier a hunter and an independent horseback rider just to name a few things.  All of these things are done with adaptive equipment but that doesn’t matter to me or does it matter other individuals with disabilities what matters is that we can do them.
When I was younger all I wanted to do was play games and play with my friends, I didn’t like going to therapies doing my exercises, or having surgeries (sill don’t like having surgeries) but as I got older I realized how important these were for maintaining my health and would make thing easier later in life. I would like to thank all the people that have helped make things easier for me GABR, Drs, my PT & OT, my parents and all three of my siblings and the rest of my family and friends for making it possible.
